Alt Sins castle ruins
The castle, which was probably built at the end of the 12th century, was originally the seat of a small manor that grew out of the Paspels estate and appears in the possession of the Lords of Vaz in the 13th century. The castle itself is first mentioned in documents in 1285. After the Vaz family died out in the male line, it passed with the lordship to the Werdenberg-Sargans family.
During the Schams Feud of 1451, the castle—which was barely inhabited at the time—was destroyed: after half of the tower was undermined, it collapsed and was never rebuilt. By order of the arbitration tribunal of 1452, the ruins were preserved as a memorial.
Today, the ruins of a four-story residential tower with a perimeter wall can still be seen. The entrance was on the second floor, and the toilet alcoves were on the third and fourth floors.
