Long-Distance Hiking Trail.

Mule Track Avers - the mysterious one

It was not until 1895 that the high valley of Avers was opened up with a road from the north side. Until then, the Avner people had been heading towards Bergell and Italy. The tracks have been preserved and lead through spectacular landscapes.

The Avers Mule Trail combines three of the region’s most impressive long-distance hiking trails: the viaSpluga from Thusis to the Roffla Gorge, the Old Avers Road to the high-alpine village of Avers, and the Via Bregaglia to Chiavenna. This alpine route leads from Thusis via Andeer to Cröt. From there, the hike winds through the remote Madris Valley to Soglio—a truly impressive hike. As an alternative to the classic mule trail, there is an alternative route via Juppa and the Bergalga Pass into the Bergell Valley to Soglio. The crowning finale is the leisurely descent to Chiavenna, Italy.
Numerous highlights await you along the way: the imposing Viamala and Roffla Gorges, the early medieval Church of St. Martin in Zillis, the wild Val Ferrera, and the secluded Avers.
