Long-Distance Hiking Trail.

Mule Track Avers - the mysterious one

It was not until 1895 that the high valley of Avers was opened up with a road from the north side. Until then, the Avner people had been heading towards Bergell and Italy. The tracks have been preserved and lead through spectacular landscapes.

The hike combines three of the most impressive long-distance hiking trails in the region: the ViaSpluga from Thusis to the Roffla gorge, the Alte Averserstrasse to the high alpine Juf and a challenging crossing into Bergell to Soglio. The crowning glory is the leisurely descent to Chiavenna in Italy. Numerous highlights await you along the way: the imposing Viamala and Roffla gorges, the early medieval church of St. Martin in Zillis, the wild Val Ferrera and the secluded Avers. You hike along historic tracks such as Bergalga or Prassignola, discover the picturesque village of Soglio, cross the Brentan chestnut forest and finally reach the spectacular waterfalls of Piuro.
