About the short stories:

• "Myrta's Garden"
  In short sequences, we observe an eccentric old man, a painter. The descriptions of his paintings depict events from the lives of the two main characters, Myrta and Samuel, who were lovers in their youth. The story takes a retrospective look; we follow their different life paths, repeatedly interrupted by the old man’s actions—and sometimes his rages—with Myrta, and her gardens, taking center stage.
  
  
• "Hungarian Dances"
  Saida, the farm girl, sits in the marsh and crafts a flute for herself out of reeds of varying lengths. Playing it comforts her in her grief, because her parents want to sell the farm. Everything is decided without Saida’s input; her wishes carry no weight. At school, the music teacher finally recognizes her talent for playing the flute, and Saida throws herself into the adventure…
  
  
• "Stay, Please"
  She—who is never named, apparently an older woman—delivers endless monologues, drawing him, who is presumably her partner, into her narrative. It soon becomes clear that the two are a well-coordinated team, honed by years of practice; each knows exactly how the other will react, yet one misunderstanding follows another. Time and again, they have to set things straight; time and again, she challenges him with strange announcements, urging him to speak up.

Regula Caviezel was born in 1951 in the canton of Thurgau as the daughter of farmers. Her dream of becoming a farmer herself came true. For over 50 years now, she has been living as a mountain farmer in a small village in Graubünden. She took up writing relatively late in life, and she does so in her own unique, unmistakable style, without compromising her authenticity.
