St. Anthony's Church Mathon

St. Anthony's Church was built around 1200 and is probably a successor to the "ecclesia in Mentaune", which was consecrated to St. Martin and mentioned as early as 831.
The ruins of the church of St. Anthony that are visible today date back to the beginning of the 13th century. During an excavation in 1956, a semicircular apse from the late Carolingian period was uncovered, which extended to the choir of the successor building. The numerous fragments from the pre-Romanesque and Romanesque periods that were found are now kept in the Rhaetian Museum's depot.
The church was saved from total decay in the 1980s. Since then, wonderful weddings can once again be celebrated here in summer.
