Splügen

The pass village of Splügen lies 1,458 meters above sea level and has around 420 inhabitants. Since January 1, 2019, Splügen has formed the municipality of Rheinwald together with Hinterrhein, Nufenen and Medels.

UN Best Tourism Village 2024
As part of its "Best Tourism Village" initiative, the UNWTO has for the fourth time been looking for tourism villages around the world that are developing in a particularly sustainable and innovative way without forgetting the local culture, nature and population. The competition was open to villages in rural areas where traditional activities such as agriculture and forestry are predominant.

Splügen and Romoos in Entlebuch impressed the UN Tourism jury with their strong focus on the sustainable development of local tourism and various initiatives to preserve, promote and valorize cultural heritage.
