Schmelzi Ausserferrera

A historic smelting plant near Ausserferrera.

For centuries, raw materials such as iron and ore helped the Ferrera and Schamsertal valleys to achieve a certain prosperity. Today, the mines have been closed down. However, the remains are still visible today.

The Hinterrhein Ore Mines Association ensures that these contemporary witnesses can be rediscovered in the mining museum in Innerferrera and on guided excursions.
