New Sins / Canova castle ruins

Only the name Neu-Sins appears in medieval documents. "Canova" = new house, seems to be a later Romanization. The castle, which was probably built by the lords of Vaz in the second half of the 13th century and inhabited by ministerials, shared the fate of Old Sins until it fell into disrepair. In 1574, Andreas von Salis zu Rietberg acquired the Canova estate and subsequently also called himself "zu Neusins".
Today, half of the four-storey residential tower still exists, which was covered with a tent roof and crowned by a battlement. There are barns in the two residential storeys, as well as the remains of a fireplace and oven. To the west of the tower is a square cistern built into the bedrock.
