Two special experiences in a unique place
The Viamala Gorge isn’t just an impressive destination during the day. In the evening, too, this hauntingly beautiful chasm becomes a stage for stories, atmospheric lighting, and special encounters. While “Viamala Notte” offers an atmospheric way to experience the gorge at night, the gorge theater production “R(h)ein ins Vergnügen” takes the audience on a journey along the Rhine.
Viamala Notte
The Viamala Notte takes you right into the evening atmosphere of the monumental gorge. Characters, stories, and impressions from some 2,000 years of travel history come to life—from Roman generals and medieval pilgrims to pack animals, artists, and travelers of our time.
Erwin Dirnberger brings these characters back to life on the open stage of the visitor center and then guides the audience down into the Viamala Gorge at night, accompanied by original quotes and songs. An impressive nighttime event for anyone who wants to experience this special place from a new perspective.
Schlucht Theater “R(h)ein ins Vergnügen”
In “R(h)ein ins Vergnügen,” the Viamala Gorge becomes a theatrical backdrop. Gian Rupf and Volker Ranisch take the audience on a journey along the Rhine—from its source to the open sea.
Across five chapters, they weave together stories, characters, and myths into a piece that is both poetic and humorous. Amid mythical creatures, romantic encounters, and “Old Father Rhine,” an atmospheric experience unfolds, brimming with wordplay, sound, and emotion—all set against the impressive backdrop of the Viamala Gorge.
