Discover Splügen in a fun way. The Dragon Trail takes you through the historic Oberdorf in about one to two hours. At seven interactive stations, you’ll delve into the village’s history and learn a lot about mule-train transport, transit and postal services, and the history of settlement—all woven into an exciting dragon tale.

Along the way, you'll solve puzzles together, collect stamps, and at the end, you can look forward to a little dragon surprise.

The story

Schorsch the Dragon needs your help!

Long ago, his ancestors left behind a mysterious legacy in Splügen. But over the centuries, clues to this legacy have been scattered throughout the village. Embark on a journey through time, solve puzzles together, and help Schorsch uncover his family’s secret.

Who is Schorsch the Dragon?

Schorsch the dragon has lived in Splügen for many centuries. He protects the house of his former masters—the “von Schorsch” family. Would you like to know what Schorsch looks like? Then look up at the roof of the Rheinwald Museum Rheinwald that’s where you’ll find him.

Here's how it works

Pick up your free adventure map at the starting point near the former customs house, across from the alpine dairy and the Volg.

Visit the seven stations and complete the tasks—for children and adults.

For every puzzle you solve, you'll get a stamp on your adventure card.

Once you've collected all the stamps on your card, a little dragon surprise awaits you. You can pick up your reward during the respective opening hours at the following locations:

Splügen Dragon Trail

Duration: about one to two hours

Distance: approx . 1 km

Suitable for: Families with children ages 5 and up; accessible with a stroller

Hours: Open year-round and accessible even in winter (except when it snows)

Starting point: Former customs house – Splügenpassstrasse 4, 7435 Splügen (across from the alpine dairy and Volg)

Equipment: The free adventure pass is available at the starting line.

Combine the Dragon Trail with other activities. At Station 4, you can take a detour to the Splügen Castle Ruins and visit Schorsch the Dragon. He’s waiting for you at a lovely picnic spot with a view of Splügen. The walk takes about 15 minutes (additional distance: approx. 700 meters).

If you’d like to hike about 500 meters further, follow the trail to the Grüeni campfire site. Take a break there and enjoy a varied family outing featuring nature, history, and beautiful viewpoints.
