Zervreila AG power plants

The Zervreila dam
Valser water is processed into electricity in Rothenbrunnen: The Zervreila power plants make it possible!

Kraftwerke Zervreila AG utilizes the hydropower of a 200 km2 catchment area in the upper Valsertal and Safiental valleys. The core of the facilities is the Zervreila reservoir with its 151 m high arch dam with a crest length of 504 m and a capacity of 100 million m3. This reservoir allows the summer inflows of the Valser Rhine above the dam site and the right-bank side streams up to the Peilerbach to be stored. The storage water is used for the first time in the Zervreila control center located at the foot of the dam. Through the transfer tunnel with an absorption capacity of 20 m3/s, it reaches the Wanna equalization basin in the rear Safiental for further use. The process water from the Safien Platz equalization basin is transported out of the valley via a further pressure tunnel and finally through the Heinzenberg to Domleschg, where it is processed in the Rothenbrunnen control center with a gradient of around 673 m. Three horizontal machine sets with twin Pelton turbines each generate 44 MW of power. After transformation to 220 kV, the energy from all plant stages is transferred to the Swiss high-voltage grid in the Rothenbrunnen open-air switchgear.
