Choral Concert "Without Words"
Adults: CHF 25.00, Children: CHF 18.00
When voices speak without words. The program features works in which the voices do not sing any lyrics—yet still unfold their own impressive musical language. The program begins with “Adiemus – Songs of Sanctuary” for choir, orchestra, and percussion by the English composer Karl Jenkins. In this piece, the choir does not sing intelligible words, but rather a specially created vocal language composed of syllables and sounds. This idea runs like a thread through the program: even in other genres—such as jazz or the natural yodeling of folk music—there are forms of singing that do without lyrics entirely and yet touch the listener immediately. The concert thus brings different musical worlds into dialogue with one another. A special moment arises where jazz improvisation and natural yodeling meet: the young jazz musician Anna Bläsi and the young yodeler Andrea Küttel are currently working with the choir on precisely that passage in which improvised jazz lines and yodeling melodies encounter one another over a choral and instrumental soundscape, interact, and ultimately find a shared musical expression. The concert ranges from calm, meditative sounds through powerful passages to a quiet, lingering conclusion. Performers include singers from the choir da donnas Vaz, an ad hoc orchestra and percussion, as well as various soloists.
