Advance booking deadline
Participation in viaMala Alta is only possible with prior reservation. As the group size is limited to a maximum of six people, we recommend booking early.
For the tour from February 8 to 13, 2026, the registration deadline is January 8, 2025.
For the tour from March 22 to 27, 2026, the registration deadline is February 20, 2026.
Cancellation conditions
In the event of last-minute changes, rebookings, or cancellations, the costs incurred will be charged in accordance with the cancellation policy. If the ski tour cannot take place due to current weather and avalanche conditions, the full cost will be refunded.
Route
The viaMala Alta is a five-day guided ski tour from Wergenstein over the Splügen Pass to Bivio. The route takes in peaks such as Gelbhorn, Surettahorn, Piz Tambo, and Piz Spadolazzo and requires solid alpine experience, confident ski touring skills, good physical condition, and weather-appropriate equipment.
The tour is accompanied by a certified ski tour guide from the Grischa Mountain Sports School. Changes to the route due to conditions or safety decisions are possible at any time.
Stage times
The stage times are guidelines without breaks and may vary depending on conditions, group speed, and selected variants. We recommend allowing plenty of time, as the tour includes both scenic highlights and challenging passages.
Border crossing Switzerland-Italy
The tour crosses the border into Italy in several stages. A valid ID card or passport is required to cross the border.
Dogs
Participation with dogs is not possible on the viaMala Alta, as the tour takes place in challenging, high alpine terrain and several accommodations and transport sections do not allow dogs.
Catering
Meals depend on the respective accommodations and travel dates:
- At the SAC Cufercal Hut and Agriturismo Montespluga, dinner is prepared together.
- In Wergenstein, Splügen, and Montespluga, meals are served à la carte or as half board, depending on the date of the event.

Luggage transportation
To ensure that your tour is as comfortable as possible, organized luggage transport is included ( ).

On alpine crossings, only the equipment necessary for the tour is carried in a daypack.
Equipment
If you are missing any items of personal ski touring equipment, touring skis, avalanche transceivers, airbags, and other equipment can be rented from Splügen Sport in Splügen or Camorino.
Return journey
The return journey from Bivio is included in the package and is made individually by public transport. Your luggage will be waiting for you in Tiefencastel, where you can conveniently pick it up.
