Splügen Reformed Church

The Splügen Reformed Church in summer
The listed Reformed church in Splügen is surprisingly large for the Grisons.

Around 843, the imperial land register lists an ecclesia in Solonio, located to the north of Reischen. Reischen adopted the Reformation between 1530 and 1535. The current church dates from 1709, while the people of Reischen were previously parishioners of St. Martin in Zillis.

The church and tower present themselves as a compact, squat building. The tower with its single-storey belfry has a pointed spire flattened at the base and the nave is covered by a hipped roof.

The baroque chancel is covered by a ribless cellular vault. A pulpit without a sounding board dominates the left-hand side of the church. The baptismal font, which is in the form of a double funnel and on which communion is also celebrated, stands conspicuously in front of the chancel.
