Cultural hikes with Tumasch Planta

There are jewels of the discovered field and archive finds to marvel at, accompanied by information from related subject areas, as well as lots of historical facts. On the subject of Roman roads over our Alpine passes, visitors will be shown the simplicity of the structures, which were built in the most demanding work and at considerable risk.

In the footsteps of the Romans

The following cultural-historical hikes take place on old transportation routes, where you can still gain exciting insights into the history of the route. Armon Planta's path research offers unique insights. Backgrounds from field and archive work and jewels of an eventful history of paths since Roman times can be marveled at - embedded in perfect alpine landscapes. Under expert guidance, I have the following to offer you.

Via Mala - Via Spluga

The Via Spluga has become a classic among cultural hiking trails. Between Thusis and Chiavenna there are not only numerous cultural assets of national and international importance, but also the most exciting treasures of trail research. For those who would like to find out more, I offer a competent guided tour over 2.5 days (from Friday noon to Sunday) of the most important and interesting sections of the Via Mala - Via Spluga:

Day 1: Thusis - Via Mala

Day 2: Splügen - Splügen Pass

          Cardinello - Isola

Day 3: Isola - Scien - Campodolcino

Excursion dates: 

September 5 - 7, 2025

September 12-14, 2025

Start:

Every Friday 11:30 at Thusis station, meeting point

Equipment:

Hiking equipment (at least good trekking shoes), lunch

Requirement:

Capable of up to 4 hours of marching time

Accommodation:

Incl. half board in a double room at the Hotel Alte Post in Zillis or Locanda Cardinello in Isola (l). Single room supplement CHF 20 per night and per person

Transportation:

Incl. ticket on partial routes and return journey by public transport or minibus

Registration:

In writing or by telephone 3 weeks before the start of the cultural hike, and/or with the deposit of CHF 300/person
