Alter Schin fireplace

The name of the Schyn Gorge comes from a practically vertical rock face (Schyn or Moir) on the north side of the gorge, which is around 800 m high and over 20 m wide. The historic connecting path, the Alte Schyn, runs through the wall around 500 m above the valley floor. It used to be an important route for goods traffic between the Albula Valley and Domleschg. Today, this path is a well-secured hiking trail between the small hamlet of Muldain-Vaz/Obervaz and the Plan Funtauna rest area. It is carved into the rock, relatively wide, secured with handrails and an approximately 80-metre-long tunnel with lighting runs through the rock face. On the hike, the Schynweg offers an impressive view down into the Schyn Gorge. There is still a risk of rockfall at one point.
The campfire site is easily accessible on foot or by bike and is located between Thusis and Muldain.
